Remembrance Day

September 2024 is just underway, and I’ve already got a client who has reserved a session for April 2025 – seven months from now! Clients often choose a date in the future because they feel it will draw closer the spirit of a loved one who celebrated a birthday or an anniversary on that certain day. And, almost always, the loved one shows up, because spirit enjoys being remembered.

Actually, clients who want far-future sessions are not that uncommon. Sometimes, when someone asks for a booking like that, I’ll see a birthday cake in my head. That tells me that date was has chosen because it was the birthday of a loved one in spirit. If I don’t get an initial impression at the booking, then I know the day is important for a reason spirit will reveal to me later.

Several years ago, Janice called in January to make an appointment for the following September. Since my autumn calendar was pretty free in that snowy January, I was able to book her no problem. By mid-July, fall slots were beginning to fill, and in mid-August when I turned the calendar page to September, there was Janice’s name, just waiting for me.

Amazing how time flies.

On Janice’s appointment day, I couldn’t stop thinking of what I was doing last January – probably with my sister, celebrating her birthday. I looked at Janice’s name while preparing for her to call, but I didn’t get a sense of a birthday remembrance. Oddly, I felt as if something was missing.

That’s when I realized this was a death date. Janice was commemorating the day someone had passed. These remembrance days can sometimes be tough – spirit doesn’t generally relish showing up when it knows it will bring tears of grief to a loved one on this side of life. Spirit wants you to be happy, to celebrate a milestone like a birthday or a wedding anniversary. After all, who doesn’t like a party?

(By the way, if you throw a celebration for a spirit person, make sure you take plenty of pictures, and look for orbs. Those small balls of light are your spirit people stopping by to enjoy the festivities!)

As I connected with Janice to begin our Zoom session, I felt the presence of a young man. I described the impressions I was getting and Janice said she recognized her husband, Mark, who had passed from liver cancer seven years previously. Mark had messages for Janice about their two sons, who were now in college, and urged her to make sure the boys kept their noses to the grindstone – especially the one on the school’s basketball team.

Janice appreciated hearing that and other messages. As our session came to a close, she asked if it was okay if she booked for the same date next year. “That’s when I feel closest to him,” she said.

“Janice,” I said, “you don’t need to wait a year to touch in with your husband. You can talk with him anytime. In fact, I still feel his presence around you.” I concentrated on Mark’s spirit, then said, “He’d like to accompany you on your drive home.”

She was flabbergasted. “I thought only you could sense him.”

“Janice, let me ask you something. Do you ever dream about Mark?”

“All the time.”

“Dreams are just one way our spirit people let us know they’re around.” And then I referred her to my free YouTube channel on my playlist, Signs From Spirit.

Remembering this story has made me thumb through my appointment books in September for the past two years. Janice never did phone back for another session. I hope she talks to her husband regularly. I may have lost a client, but I feel I’ve gained in my heart by helping a woman find out that she can talk to her husband whenever the spirit moves her.
