IF YOU WISH IT, THEY WILL COME

I love hearing stories about a butterfly alighting on a headstone the moment someone stops by the grave to pay their respects. Or a car alarm that goes off just when two people are talking about how much they miss someone. And how many times have you thought of somebody, and then immediately heard a song on the radio that reminded you of that person?

These are just a few of the anecdotes I’ve heard from clients about a spirit person touching in with them. These stories don’t surprise me, because I know you’re surrounded by the spirits of friends and loved ones who have passed over to the other side. They want to comfort you when you hurt, give you good advice when you’re confused, and talk to you when you’re lonely. But most of all, they want to show you that they are available for you to call on.

Feeling lonely? All you need to do is talk to them. That will bring them closer to you. They are only a thought away. When you open your heart, your mind, and your senses to them, then they will start to communicate with you.

Then again, maybe they have already done things to let you know they are there. They may have put their picture in your head, created a scent that reminds you of them, or gently whispered a name – perhaps yours – in your ear. Perhaps they’ve left something for you to find – a coin, a button, a feather. Or something unique that would immediately make you think of that person.

Try this: Close your eyes and visualize someone you know and care about who has passed into the spirit world. Picture that person’s face, remember the sound of their voice, or a scent associated with them. And please visualize that person with a smile.

I bet some of you held that spirit person’s image in your memory for more than a few moments. Wasn’t it nice seeing them again?

If you enjoyed that experience, know this: You can visit and talk with that spirit person any time.

You see, spirit works with your environment to let you know they’re around. For example, my client Delores believed her husband, Jim, who had passed into spirit six months previously, had returned to Earth as a cat. She got this idea because several times while sitting in her backyard garden, thinking about how much she missed her partner of thirty-one years, a fluffy white cat walked by. In fact, once the cat had stopped and looked at her, meowed once, then scampered off.

While I do believe in reincarnation, I gently explained to Delores that I didn’t think her husband became the cat – instead, his spirit influenced the cat to pass by when she was remembering him. “It was Jim’s way of saying hi, and letting you know he’s thinking of you, too,” I told her.

Another client, Sheila, always seems to hear Lee Ann Womack singing “I Hope You Dance,” when she thinks of her father, and she remembers how he encouraged her to take ballet lessons when she was a little girl. Though she no longer takes ballet, she does enjoy going dancing with her friends on the weekend.

And every time she hears the song, she says, “Hi, Dad.”

If something like that happens to you, let the person know you think of him or her. And thank that person for saying hello. This will further strengthen the connection between you and them.
