I Am At Peace…

Just because the world appears to be in panic mode, doesn’t mean you have to be, too.

Granted, at the time of this writing, things aren’t looking as sunny as we’d surely like everything to be. What seems to be making our lives extra difficult is that situations that affect us are so fluid. In the days between the writing of this blog and its posting on my website, things may change again – and, let’s hope, for the better.

It’s no wonder my clients are extra anxious these days. Canadians are worried about tariffs and the coming elections, expat Ukrainians are concerned about their homeland, Americans are fretting over the cost of living … and the list goes on.

Julie, for example, recently contacted me for a reading. During the first half of our Zoom session, I was able to link with her husband, who had passed from complications from diabetes. Her mother in spirit also stopped by. Though she was glad to hear from them, her tone of voice and facial expressions seemed to say otherwise. She was appreciative, yet subdued.

As our session was coming to a close, concerned for Julie’s welfare, I asked her if there was anything else she’d like to talk about.

A big sigh, then she said, “It’s just getting so hard to concentrate on my meditation and spirituality. Between work, being a single mom and trying to stay in my budget, life is stressful. And I’m afraid with what’s going on in the news, things are going to get a lot more so.”

I sympathized with her completely. Just because I’m a psychic doesn’t mean I know what’s going on at every moment in every world leader’s head. Sometimes, I feel lucky if I know what my husband is thinking. Plus, like Julie, I’ve got to put food on the table – as long as it’s gluten-free.

“This is a turbulent time for many people,” I said. “You’re not alone. Try to focus on what you can change in your own life, and release any worry of things you cannot. Sometimes, when I feel like life is becoming a burden that’s getting tough to carry, I say The Serenity Prayer, one of my favourites:

‘God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
The courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.’

Julie was quiet as she digested those words, then said, “I wish I could get my son to accept that prayer. He’s so high-string lately. He’s about to graduate university and worries about getting a job. And, unfortunately, he doesn’t believe in God.”

I then suggested her son might like this nugget I’d found once when noodling around the internet. It’s the Pagan Serenity Prayer:

‘Lord and Lady grant me the power of Water, to accept what I cannot change.
The power of Fire, for energy and courage to change the things that I can.
The power of Air, for the ability to know the difference.
Grant me the power of Earth, for the strength to know and walk my path.’

“Julie, you know what else helps me? No matter how busy I get during the week, I make time to take time out-of-doors. If weather doesn’t permit, then I sit in my comfy chair and just take deep, calming breaths. And I visualize my mantra: ‘I am at Peace.’ I repeat that mantra until I feel its effects.

“So, my message to you is this: Just breathe. What gets me through difficult times is the thought that everything is temporary.”

Then I suggested clearing her home of worry energy by listening to my free meditations, which can be found here. (Scroll down to the bottom and look for the beach stones.)

Reflecting back on Julie’s session now, I can’t help hoping that she has found a way to de-stress through meditation or a relaxing stroll around her neighbourhood. What a wonderful world this would be if more people in power learned the value of meditation!

But until that happens, as Gandhi said: Be the change you wish to see in the world.

You are at peace.
