I gnash my teeth when I get emails like the one I’m going to share with you, because I want you to know that psychic scammers are out there. And they’ve developed a new way to prey on vulnerable people. Those lowlifes procure victims by reading people’s Facebook or Instagram (IG) posts. And if that post contains some sort of distressing story, the scammer contacts that person out of the blue and says the individual has a curse – which the scammer will get rid of for a hefty price.
Think about it – would I ever call some stranger on the internet and ask if they want a reading? Of course not! Would a lawyer call you out of the blue asking if you need defending? Would a doctor suddenly email you asking if you’d like a brain scan or an operation?
Of course not!!
Case in point – I recently received the following email:
I read your blog about psychic scams on IG (Instagram). A psychic found me on the internet and I paid for cleansing, curse removal, etc. and a lot of issues I was going through at the time. Anyway, I stopped contacting her and giving her money, and now she keeps threatening me and my son’s life if I don’t give them any more money. I block her Gmail messages, but she keeps sending more threats. This has been going on since last year. I don’t want that psychic to scam me into paying her to protect me from her evil wrath that she promises will kill me and my son. I don’t know what to do to get her to stop messaging me, other than changing my phone number and email address. This has financially ruined me. I want her to stop messaging me and threatening me and my son’s life. Any advice you have would be greatly appreciated.
My response to this person:
Thank you for your courage to write me. You must report this matter to the police. This is harassment, and I’m sure other people have fallen for this nonsense. Do everyone a favour and prosecute this scammer.
May I remind you: A reputable psychic or medium will NEVER call you for a reading. The honest and respectable business people – yes, this is our livelihood – would do nothing to sew distrust in our profession. YOU call US – that’s the only way we work.
Now, as to preventing followers from accessing your Instagram account, you can make your account private. Taking the following steps will restrict the visibility of your profile, posts, and follower list to approved followers only. Non-followers will need to request to follow you to view your content, and they won’t be able to see others who follows you.
Here’s how to make your account private:
1. Go to your profile: Tap your profile picture in the bottom right corner.
2. Access settings: Tap the three horizontal lines in the top right corner.
3. Navigate to privacy: Select “Settings” and then “Privacy”.
4. Toggle private account: Toggle the switch next to “Private Account” to make your account private.
5. Confirm: Tap “Switch to private” to confirm your choice.
However, there is one more thought to note: skilled hackers can unfortunately find ways to “overhear” private chats on the internet. So be mindful of what you write in your texts, folks.
