IMPRINT AT THE GYM

“Are you sensing anything?” my husband asked, as he led me into the small hallway leading to the men’s locker room, located in the basement of our building.

“I feel creepy,” I answered, but not because of anything supernatural. I mean, C’mon! Being in the men’s changing room? Even here at 6 a.m., what if some guy walked in the other door, the one that takes you to the gym?

“This is where I saw the shadow,” my husband said. I concentrated for a moment, then shook my head and shrugged. Then – thankfully – he steered us out of the room and into the public walkway, where I didn’t have to worry about being seen and blew out a nervous breath.

Ben likes to work out in the basement gym in our building every day, “to keep what’s left of my youthful physique,” he often says jokingly. Every afternoon, he either lifts weights or rides the recumbent bicycle. But yesterday, he told me, he saw the human-like shadow for the second time.

“The first time I saw it was about a week ago,” he said. “I was bending over and tying my shoes when, out of the corner of my eye, I thought I saw something flit by towards the door. I didn’t think much about it, but yesterday, as I was packing up my gym bag, I could’ve sworn I saw someone’s shadow pass behind me and go into the small hallway toward the outer door. I quickly jogged to the hallway, but no one was there. And I never heard the outer door whoosh open.”

“You probably saw spirit,” I said. “It was probably somebody like you, who liked using the gym a lot when he lived here.”

My husband was deep in thought as we walked to the elevator that would take us upstairs. He pressed the up button, then turned to me. “Should I try talking to it?”

“Why not? Let him know you’re aware of him and see if he answers you back. But don’t be disappointed if, the next time you see or sense him, he doesn’t respond. Because what you saw may just be an imprint.”

The elevator doors yawned open and, thankfully, we were alone, so I didn’t mind continuing the conversation. Being overheard while discussing mediumship and other spiritual matters often elicits raised eyebrows and questioning looks from others.

“An imprint is just that – an image that’s spiritually melded into a scene. For you, it’s like a visual memory from the spirit world. Think of it as a 3-D photograph that exists in time and space. You can talk to an imprint, just like you can talk to a photograph, but that photo won’t talk back to you.”

It’s not uncommon to see imprints in places like older buildings, I explained; places where many people have lived until they passed away. Especially people with powerful senses of self who retain strong memories of places that made them happy; those powerful memories of places they feel strongly attached to still exist after they die. And those memories are like psychic snapshots of places they leave behind.

This exchange took place several months ago. Since that time, my husband hasn’t reported seeing the shadow/spirit/imprint since. But that’s the thing about imprints. Sometimes, seeing them, you have to be in the right place at the right time.
