Most of my clients and students who study psychic development are women. And one of the things they find fascinating is learning about their psychic centres.
There are three physical psychic centres in the body and seven energetic centres – namely, the chakra system – that make up the network of psychic physiology. Because the physical psychic centres are rarely discussed, I want to focus on these little known centres, whose function is to heighten your awareness, increase your sensitivity and deepen your spiritual connection to the Universe.
The physical psychic centres:
1. Three glands located in the brain: The hypothalamus, pituitary and pineal glands support psychic work by receiving and transmitting in a clairvoyant (clear seeing), clairaudient (clear hearing) and clairsentient (clear feeling) manner. Amoráh Ross, an intuitive life coach, calls the hypothalamus the body’s “inbox,” because it receives information in the form of an energy transmission from your soul and your guides, who reside outside the physical, here-and-now reality we walk around in. The pituitary is the gland that translates this information into thoughts and words. The pineal gland is where the information is translated into pictures.
2. The heart: There’s a reason the heart is located in the centre of the chest – it is the centre of our spiritual and energetic feelings. Clairsentience (clear knowing) is translated through the heart, so we “feel” what we know.
3. The spine: The seat of the central nervous system supports the chakras (Sanskrit for “wheel”) – our energetic psychic centres. From a metaphysical point of view, the spine is the centre of our being.
Now that we’re familiar with each of the physical psychic centres, let’s put them together and see how they work in concert to help you become more intuitive – more “in tune” with the world outside you, and more “in touch” with your soul and spiritual nature.
First, remember that your brain is an electromagnetic instrument through which your intuition is allowed to work. The pituitary and pineal glands are important for the insightful work that your guides provide, because those glands are the receptors that hear thoughts and see pictures. If these receptors are altered in any way (such as through drugs or alcohol, or by experiencing emotions of fear or anger), it becomes difficult to “hear” your hunches and “imagine” a positive outcome to a dilemma you may be trying to work through.
Here’s another way to look at it, thanks to Peter Abrahams, author of The Atlas of the Human Body. The hypothalamus is concerned with emotions and drives such as hunger and thirst, and also helps to control body temperature and the water-salt balance in the blood. The pineal grand is part of the epithalamus (involved in the control of the sleep/wake cycle), which synthesizes melatonin, the hormone that controls our circadian rhythm and, in women, controls the timing and release of reproductive hormones. In some studies, melatonin has been shown to help prevent osteoporosis and alleviate depression.
The heart has incredible power and stamina, beating over 70 times every minute to pump blood around the body. The spinal cord is the communication pathway between the brain and the body, and carries bio-electronic messages to organs that control body functions, as well as sends information back to the brain about what is happening in the body.
Therefore, it is critical that the health of the body be kept at a high level. That is accomplished through sleep, eating fresh food and drinking plenty of water. Your car won’t function if you put substandard fuel into the gas tank and you never clean the windshield. So why not eat well and stay clear-headed? If you want your intuition to be sharp, and your spiritual side to remain open to the synchronicities of the Universe, then it is crucial that you stay healthy, exercise and sleep regularly. Because those people who are well-adjusted, balanced and centred will hear their guides and higher selves speaking loudly and clearly.
It is important for people to be fully in the prime of their existence – through thought, word, deed and health – to fully enjoy the psychic gifts of clairaudience, clairsentience and clairvoyance. Furthermore, you don’t have to be special to receive information this way – everyone does it!
When you think health of the body, think not only of the physical but also of the energetic. The energetic body’s health has a direct association to that of the physical. The way to change your life for the better is to be conscious of who you are and take responsibility for your health. And that, my friends, is up to you.
