CUTTING THE TIES THAT BIND

I recently taught my seminar “Manifesting Your Mate” at Lily Dale, New York, one of the largest Spiritualist communities in the world. Every summer, the gated Victorian village offers, among other things, classes in mediumship, personal growth and spiritual development. My workshop taught men and women how to be receptive to finding a likeminded individual that they would want to share their life with. I also talked about what NOT to look for in a potential partner. Afterward, listening to some of my students’ stories, I realized that what often keeps people from finding happiness with a new person is that it is hard to walk away from a relationship that no longer serves them. So, if I teach this workshop again, I’m going to include my meditation, “Cutting The Ties That Bind.”

MESSAGES FROM THE PHYSICAL

A few weeks ago I served as guest medium at the Muskoka Spiritualist Church in Bracebridge, Ontario. Just as I was about to begin, a spirit interrupted my thoughts and asked me to mention “earthly” patients who link in with me because they want to get their messages to their loved ones. Basically, I told the congregation that occasionally I can tune into someone who is an advanced Alzheimer's disease patient, or who is in a coma. These are people getting ready to transition; their bodies are still here, but their spirit is preparing to leave. I then proceeded to give my first message – and, as it turned out, the congregant who took the message recognized that the “spirit” who was contacting her belonged to an aunt who was living in a nursing home. The aunt, close to death, had severe Alzheimer's, and had stopped communicating with others days ago. The message I delivered was very profound, because it allowed the woman’s aunt to “speak” one last time.

DID I DO THE RIGHT THING?

Abigail telephoned to book a session, but after talking with her for a few minutes, I realized what she needed was something I wasn’t sure I could give. She needed someone in spirit to tell her she had made a correct decision, which would lift a burden of guilt from her shoulders. I told Abigail I couldn’t promise that the spirit she wanted to talk with would show up at her session; furthermore, I couldn’t guarantee that spirit would tell her what she wanted to hear. During a session, spirit is in charge – I’m only the messenger. Abigail paused for a moment, then said, “It’s about my mother. I’ve got to know if she’s angry at me for what I did.”

HELPING OUR CHILDREN

I was about to close the office for the day when the telephone rang. It was 4:59 pm, just seconds away from when the answering service would click on. It had been a tough day for readings; several mothers had come to me wanting to connect with their children who had passed into spirit. Those kinds of sessions are always rough, being a mother myself. But the ringing sounded urgent, and spirit urged me to pick up the receiver. I’m glad I did, because it was a child in need. Unfortunately, I couldn’t give her the help she wanted.

A MOTHER’S HOPE

When I greeted Juliette at my office door, I immediately sensed her sorrow. Her dark, shoulder-length hair was flecked with streaks of grey. As I escorted the well-dressed lady into my reading room, I thanked her for coming to see me, and tried putting her at ease with pleasant chitchat about the weather and her drive over. She sat in the chair across from my desk and played with the ends of her green scarf, rolling and unrolling the cloth around the fingers of her right hand. I wondered how I could calm Juliette down before our session would begin, but she immediately blurted out, “Please tell me – is my son in hell?”
