THE POSSESSED POSSESSIONS

Our friend, Michael, collects old blues and jazz records from the early 1900’s, and newspapers from that same era. He especially loves comics sections from those ancient papers and tabloids. We met him and his lovely wife, Lila, recently in Toledo, Ohio, to visit the marvellous Glass Pavilion, which is part of the Toledo Museum of Art. During dinner that evening, Dave turned to me and said he’d bought a box of newspapers from the 1880’s that, even though they smelled like they’d been sitting in a musty attic for 100 years – and they probably were – the newsprint was still readable. Yet, Michael said, there was something a little strange about his treasures.

THE INSTAGRAM PSYCHIC SCAM

I received a telephone call a few days ago from a distraught woman who fell prey to a psychic scammer. The swindler reached out through the Internet to scare the poor woman into sending money. My blood boils every time I hear about phoney psychics inventing new ways to cheat people, which also gives every reputable lightworker a black eye. So, here’s lesson number one – never let a psychic or medium choose you. You must choose to consult a medium or a psychic.

LET IT GO

Carlos was a gentle man with a kind-hearted soul, and there was a fierce determination in his eyes. He’d made an appointment with me because he wanted to hear from his father, Gustavo, who had died several years ago. At the beginning of our session, he told me he had dreamed of his father, who appeared as a phantom-like figure on the edge of his unconscious awareness. Carlos could never remember the gist of the dreams once he woke up. The only thing he knew was his father had spoken to him, but Gustavo’s voice had sounded blurred, like he was speaking underwater. And that made no sense to Carlos, because his father hadn’t drowned.

MY FIRST PSYCHIC EXPERIENCE

While I’m never surprised by words or images that pop into my head – it’s how spirit talks to me – I’m often amazed by the long-lost thoughts that pop out of my memory. Case in point: During a recent radio show, I was on the telephone with an American interviewer, and she asked how I “got into” being a psychic medium. I was about to tell her the story of the first time I had gone to a psychic for a reading – a terrible experience, which I recounted in my book Compassionate Messenger. But I paused on the phone, then suddenly recalled my first truly psychic experience: I was eight years old, so sick in bed with the flu that I thought I was going to die, and being surrounded by twelve angelic lights.

THE FIRST TIME

As I walked Rosie into my office, I watched the way the woman’s eyes darted around the room. I wondered if she was going through one of those mental checklists of things people expect to see in a psychic medium’s reading room. I smiled, remembering one client who had asked in a disappointed voice, “Where’s your crystal ball?” Sorry, no ball, pyramid, magic wand or purple lava lamp (that one’s upstairs in the bedroom). I sat down behind my desk and gestured to the chair across from my desk. Rosie looked at the empty chair, then back at me, and nervously said, “What am I supposed to do now?”
