We’ve just made our reservations at the Maplewood Hotel in Lily Dale, New York. Thankfully, we were able to secure lodgings in Room 6, our favourite room. Judy, the hotel manager, noted that lots of people have been requesting that room, and I had to smile. I wrote about the ghostly happenings in Room 6 in my book Compassionate Messenger: True Stories From A Psychic Medium, and I guess readers are eager to experience a haunted hotel room for themselves. Well, if you’re one of the unlucky people who couldn’t get a reservation for Room 6, don’t fret: Room 42 is just as haunted.

Imagine this: Someone special – perhaps an old friend or loved one you haven’t heard from in years – has stopped by to visit. This person has come from far away, and spent lots of effort to travel and contact you. He or she appears at your front door and knocks loudly, waits patiently, but gets no answer. Where are you? This person can see lights on in your house, and just knows you’re home. Why won’t you answer? Frustrated and a little disappointed, your special visitor eventually leaves – with the hope that later, you’ll recognize that he/she has been here. Sound familiar? This is what spirit experiences when it cannot connect with someone on the Earth plane. And that’s when my job gets tough.

When the spirit of my client’s father came through, he spoke of his regrets. My client, Doreen, a woman with two grown children and a successful law practice, had hoped to reconnect with her father, who had been emotionally distant when he was alive. Of course, what she wanted to hear most was for him to say “I love you.” Instead, he came bearing the energy of sorrow. I did so much want to give Doreen positive words of encouragement – what I sensed this dynamic lady was looking for – but I have to be truthful, and give only what I get from spirit people. After Doreen left my office, I felt bad that her father had gone to his grave with so much unfinished business. And then I remembered an article I had recently read: a nurse who has worked in palliative care for many years noted “The Top Five Regrets People Make on Their Deathbed.”

I received a heartbreaking telephone call for help from a young woman last week. She had been seeing a psychic for several years, one she trusted, and recently confided to the person that she suspected her boyfriend of infidelity. The “trusted” psychic then asked the woman for $300; the money would be used to put a spell on the wayward boyfriend and bring him back. Well, she paid the $300 but the spell didn’t work, so the psychic said she needed a stronger mojo and told the woman to pay another $600. Troubled by this, she called and asked me what she should do.

A few days into the new year, I got a telephone call from the producer of the “JJ and Melanie in the Morning” radio show, on 93.5FM-The Flow. The producer was looking for a psychic to give predictions on the air, and found me on the Internet. Excitedly, I called him back. Unfortunately, I’d been out when he called, and by the time I responded, three hours had gone by, and he’d lined up someone else. Oh, well, it’s always fun to get invited to a party, even if you can’t go. Maybe next year! But his call got me thinking – what did I see ahead for 2012? So I sat down a few days ago and made a few predictions, which I’ll check at the end of the year – provided that the Mayans were all wrong, of course.
